Synopsis
In the fog-bound streets of Victorian London, the respectable and reserved lawyer Gabriel John Utterson grows deeply uneasy about his longtime friend, the benevolent Dr. Henry Jekyll. A cruel, deformed stranger named Edward Hyde has begun stalking the city’s shadows, committing wanton acts of brutality with chilling indifference. Strangest of all, Dr. Jekyll has abruptly altered his will, leaving his entire fortune to this sinister newcomer in the event of his death or unexplained disappearance. Convinced that his vulnerable friend is the victim of a ruthless blackmailer, Utterson embarks on an investigation into Hyde’s shadowy origins. Yet the deeper the lawyer probes into the locked laboratory and Hyde’s nocturnal haunts, the more terrifying the mystery becomes. Atmospheric, brooding, and suspenseful, this gothic masterpiece explores the dark dualities lurking beneath the veneer of civilized society.
