Synopsis
Restless and motherless, young Huckleberry Finn chafes under the suffocating rules of polite society and the terrifying unpredictability of his abusive, drunken father. Faking his own death to claim his freedom, Huck escapes to Jackson’s Island, where he discovers Jim, an enslaved man fleeing the threat of being sold down the river. Together, this unlikely pair cobble together a wooden raft and launch into the wide, treacherous waters of the mighty Mississippi. Traveling by the cover of darkness, they encounter foggy river bends, wrecked steamboats, feuding aristocrats, and scheming confidence tricksters. Infused with biting satire, rich local color, and an unforgettable vernacular voice, the journey balances rollicking frontier humor with Huck's awakening conscience as he must decide whether to follow society’s rigid laws or the loyal promptings of his own heart.
