Synopsis
Bored with the suffocating routine of late-summer London, junior Foreign Office diplomat Carruthers eagerly accepts an invitation from an eccentric acquaintance, Arthur Davies, for a yachting holiday. Expecting a luxurious cruise, Carruthers arrives to find a cramped, weathered cutter named the Dulcibella and freezing autumn waters.
He soon learns Davies harbors a secret objective. While charting the treacherous shoals and shifting sandbanks of the German Frisian Islands, Davies suspects he was deliberately lured into a wreck by a sinister host. Together, the mismatched pair navigate labyrinthine tidal channels under the guise of casual exploration. As dense mists, hostile watchers, and fierce North Sea gales close in, their rustic voyage transforms into a high-stakes reconnaissance mission. Armed only with navigational charts and daring resolve, they race to expose a covert imperial plot before their presence is discovered.
