Synopsis
Eager and unassuming, fifteen-year-old Barry Locke arrives in the sleepy town of Wessex ready to embark on life at boarding school. Expecting a room on campus with his wealthy acquaintance Clyde Allen, Barry is caught off guard when dormitory space falls through, leaving him relegated to a modest off-campus boarding house run by Mrs. Lyle. Undeterred by the worn cottage and Clyde’s patronizing attitude, Barry quickly warms to his dry, sharp-witted fellow boarder and resolves to make the best of his independent quarters. The crisp autumn air heralds the start of football season, presenting Barry with an arena to test his grit and quiet athletic talent. Out on the gridiron, he faces grueling drills, fierce competition, and campus rivalries. As social lines are drawn, Barry must navigate tricky loyalties and prove he has the heart and skill to earn his place as a reliable half-back.
