Synopsis
Trapped in the gloom of a rainy London February and suffocating in unfulfilling marriages, two strangers, the impulsive Lotty Wilkins and the melancholy Rose Arbuthnot, spot an intriguing advertisement in the newspaper. A small medieval Italian castle on the shores of the Mediterranean is available to let for the month of April, complete with sunshine and blossoming wistaria. Yearning for escape, they recruit two other Englishwomen: the imperious, elderly Mrs. Fisher and the stunning yet weary Lady Caroline Dester. Pooling their savings, this unlikely quartet flees dreary England for the sun-drenched sanctuary of San Salvatore. Surrounded by breathtaking coastal views, vibrant gardens, and gentle warmth, the women find their guarded spirits beginning to thaw. Luminous, witty, and deeply uplifting, this charming novel explores the restorative power of friendship, beauty, and second chances amidst the radiant magic of the Italian spring.
