Synopsis
In a provincial Russian town, fierce passions and bitter rivalries tear at the volatile Karamazov family. At the center stands Fyodor Pavlovitch, a cynical and depraved patriarch whose shameless debauchery alienates everyone around him. His three estranged sons represent radically divergent facets of the human soul. Dmitri, the fiery eldest, burns with reckless desire and rages against his father over money and the woman they both covet. Ivan, a brilliant rationalist, grapples with existential doubt and the agonizing moral weight of free will. Meanwhile, the gentle and devout Alyosha strives to bring compassion and spiritual peace to the brewing storm. As long-simmering resentments fester and violent impulses collide, a devastating family crisis looms. Gripping, deeply psychological, and profound, this monumental tale plunges into the turbulent depths of faith, morality, and redemption.
Translated by Constance Garnett.
